Flamenco Guitar Workshop with John Walsh. Workshop will consist of an introduction to Flamenco rhythms & techniques, with an emphasis on the right hand.

John Walsh is Ireland’s foremost Flamenco guitarist, performing and composing since 2006. After earning a classical guitar diploma from Trinity College London, he focused exclusively on Flamenco, studying with masters like Salvador Andrades in Spain. He has performed across Ireland, the UK, and Spain, including at the Paco de Lucia Guitar Festival. John has composed for the National Ballet of Ireland and collaborated with Riverdance. His debut album Irlandalucía (2020) received widespread acclaim. In addition to performing, he formed a trio blending Flamenco, traditional Irish, and Baroque music.

An intimate guitar concert in a record store with Dr Michael O'Toole. Free to members.

Dr Michael O'Toole is one of Ireland’s leading guitarists, acclaimed for his international performances and collaborations with top musicians. He earned his PhD in 2018 from Dublin Institute of Technology and published his book John Williams: Changing the Culture of the Classical Guitar in 2019. Michael has directed The Waltons Guitar Festival and Kilkenny Arts Festival, balancing his performance career with promoting the guitar. His solo CD Invocation (2007) and collaboration with Chinese pipa virtuoso Liu Fang on Changes (2008) have been highly praised. He teaches at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and SETU.

Dylan Bible is one of Ireland's leading jazz guitarists. Having studied in Leeds University and honed his craft abroad, he returned in Waterford and has been a prominent musician on the Irish music scene for the past 20 years. He plays every genre but specialises and teaches jazz guitar. This is a concert not to be missed.

About Guitar Society

Established by the music students of South East Technological University Waterford, The SETU Guitar Society is a place, not only for guitar students and enthusiasts but for all musicians. 

Our main aims and objectives are:

  • to promote the guitar
  • run gigs and events throughout the college semester
  • create a space for all musicians within and outside the college to come together to create music
  • be inclusive to all members of the musical society of the south-east 
  • create musical and artistic links with the Carlow and Wexford campuses of SETU
